Tanna Clews
Named MCEE Executive Director
The Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education (MCEE) hired Tanna Clews of South Berwick, ME as Executive Director. Tanna has more than ten years of experience in political fundraising, non-profit management, coalition-building and grass roots advocacy.
“MCEE is thrilled to have Tanna join our organization,” said Yellow Light Breen, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Tanna’s strong leadership, as well as her advocacy, fundraising and coalition-building skills make her an excellent choice to lead the Coalition. We are excited to have her at the helm as we begin the second year of our Prepare Maine Initiative, a multi-year campaign to advocate for a standards based, integrated education system from Pre-K through career training and/or higher education.”
Most recently, Ms. Clews was the Executive Director of La Napoule Art Foundation, an international arts and cultural organization co-located in Portsmouth, NH and La Napoule, France. Prior to that, Ms. Clews was Director of Clews & Associates, a fundraising and strategic development company. She has worked for local, state and national political campaigns in and outside of New England. As a volunteer, she is the Chair of the Board of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, a Board Member of SoBo Central, and a former Board Member of A Safe Place. Ms. Clews received a B.A. from Smith College and a J.D. from Northeastern University.
“I am honored to join the Coalition at such an important point in the organization’s history. For more than 20 years, MCEE has advocated for educational opportunity and equity for all Maine students. I look forward to helping the Coalition build upon its political successes and expand its outreach and impact throughout the state of Maine,” said Clews.
Please contact the MCEE office at 469-3231 if you want to set up a meeting with Tanna to discuss the Coalition's work, our Prepare Maine initiative and legislation or education reform in general.
